BIO

Chish is a creative director, visual artist, and designer born in Zambia and later settled in Canada. His passion for art began at a young age. Chish first learned how to draw from his cousin while living at his grandmother’s house in Zambia. Growing up he was inspired by musicians, actors, artists, and world leaders. All of that inspiration is what led him to becoming a professional artist. In 2020 Chish began working as a professional artist. Since then he has been featured in Productive Honey magazine based in New York, collaborated on murals, group exhibitions, place making, and artist residencies. In 2023 he participated in the RBC EVAP which led to a TV interview with CTV news. During his residency he partnered with the artist collective FOREIGNERZ to create a visual documentary for the Telus Sky Art While Wait public art exhibition. Art has brought Chish an incredible amount of joy, and he hopes that what he creates will do the same for others.

STATEMENT

I am a creative director, visual artist, and designer. When it comes to creative direction I like to do extensive research on the project that I'm working on so I can be well informed about how to execute it. The best way to describe my visual art practice is “spontaneous and organic using any medium available”. Most of my work is intuitive, I start with a concept or idea then expand on it instinctively. I’ll create the painting then dissect what it means and come up with a title after it’s completed. In regards to fashion my intention is to create pieces that tell a story. What’s fascinating to me is art and fashion that’s considered timeless and historical. One of my favorite things to do to get inspired is to watch documentaries, movies, or read books about artists and designers that made history. I hope that one day the work that I make is considered timeless and historical.
